I would like to draw his attention to the present situation in this area. We understand there is a strong possibility of the closure of the accident and emergency department and, indeed, even of the entire Royal Surrey County Hospital at Guildford, with the suggestion that patients should travel to St Peter’s, Chertsey, or Frimley Park hospitals. There have been public demonstrations, petitions and representations to parliament to retain our hospital, a leading centre of excellence, in particular in cancer treatment. If Mr Brown is at all serious about listening to the opinions of the public, he will support the retention of our hospital.
