Your Letters
One way to cut costs is to reduce collection timeResidents in Rushmoor seem to be blessed with the inane A5 size leaflets issued by Cllr Peter Sandy of Heron Wood ward.
One comment from a resident was that he obviously had a bee in his bonnet and they didn’t like the aggressive tone of his outpourings. Another said he didn’t have a very good command of English and had muddled thinking.
I cannot really disagree with them. In his second paragraph, he is saying “…this is just another greed-motivated scheme driven by this council for profit, whilst they waste endless amounts of local taxes upon non self-funding projects.”
What our independent-minded councillor doesn’t comprehend is that the collection of refuse costs money and one way to cut costs is to reduce the total collection time. I cannot see, as alleged, that the council is there to make a profit out of it. Come, come Mr Sandy, think logically. Remember, time costs money.
Admittedly, there will be teething problems for families with the green bin filling up quicker but then I understand one can apply for a larger bin. Another problem is with items such as fish, which should be put into a sealed bag. All other household waste could be placed into plastic supermarket bags.
The alternate bin collection pilot scheme is assessing the system’s viability and can iron out any snags. Perhaps that doesn’t suit your logic Cllr Sandy. Anyway, you’re up for re-election in 2008, so events might solve themselves.
